Welcome!

Welcome to my website. My name is Servando Montero and i'm a Programmer-Analyst.

Servando Montero

I was born in the morning of November 8, 1974 and brought up in Spain in a tiny city called Bilbao, a typically spanish city. By all accounts I was a happy baby. I liked people, I didn't fuss a lot, and did silly tricks so that my parents would have more interesting baby pictures than their friends.

At the age of 4, we moved to a slightly larger city called Montreal with my parents and my 3 sisters.

I had a great childhood playing soccer, swimming in the pool during the summer and spending a little too much time with my friends.

School

I first got my hands on a computer in high school. One of the first lines of coding was the simple but inevitable "Hello World!" program in assembler. I was extremely bored and unimpressed. Odds are that I failed the course and promised my self to never touch a computer again!

After high school, I went to college, studied sciences and got my diploma in 1995. I know it's a cliche, but college really did hold the high and low points of my life.

I took a year off to travel back to my roots. That was my full circle moment. When I got back, I decided I would join the computer revolution. I don't know how it happen, but i know it did and i'm happy that it happen.

I graduated from Delta college1 in 1997 and got my diploma in computers as a programmer-analyst.

Lotus Notes/Domino

I started my professional development career in 1998 programming Word macros, Access, VBA and HTML.

VIA Rail Canada

In 1999, I was fortunate enough to get a job at a company called VIA Rail Canada. It was there that my life as a Lotus developer and administrator started. I stayed for the next 6 and a half years doing mostly Domino development and learning the subtle mix between Domino, HTML/DHTML, CSS and JavaScript.

IBM

Today I am a Principle CLP developer in R5 (for what it's worth) and i work for myself as a consultant providing Domino development and web design consultancy.
